Testing Instruments By Standards
ASTM D2240 is a testing standard that is used in rubber industries to assess the durometer hardness of a rubber material or product. The test method is based on the amount of penetration experienced by a material when a specific indenter is introduced to the material under specific load and specific conditions. The indentation hardness is related to the elastic modulus of the material and inversely related to the amount of penetration. The test method is primary used in industries as an empirical test for quality control purposes. The testing standards is not meant to test the coated fabrics but is applicable to a variety of materials such as gel-like materials, vulcanized rubber, elastomeric materials etc.
