Standard test method to measure the tear strength of thermoplastic elastomers and vulcanized rubber

TPE i.e. Thermoplastic elastomers and vulcanized rubber usually fails to work because of propagation and generation of special type of rupture known as a tear. This test method helps to measure the resistance to tear of TPE or vulcanized rubber.

Tear strength of a material subject to high degree of stress induced anisotropy i.e. mechanical fiber, test piece size, stress distribution and strain rate. The result accomplished in a tear strength test can be concluded as a test method under the circumstances of that particular test and does not have any direct relation to the working performance. The significance of tear testing is considered on an individual application or product performance basis.
