Protect Materials from Deterioration with Abrasion Testing

Abrasion is a major factor that badly affects the quality of the surface of the material. Performing the abrasion test on the materials helps to compare the quality of the coated material and to predict the actual life of the product by providing real-time conditions. Abrasion testing is performed on the coated or plated materials to examine the abrasion resistance strength of the materials. Different materials such as composites, metals, ceramics, thick coatings such as thermal sprays, etc. can be tested with the help of this test. The core functioning of this test is to produce data that helps to measure the ranking or grading of the material as per its quality of resistance to abrasion and scratching under specified conditions. This test is never used to analyze the resistance of the material in a specific type of environment. Its value lies in determining the rank of material in order of quality and occurs in the relatively highly abrasive environment. The actual volume of loss in the data which is obtained from this test under specific conditions of the abrasive environment is then compared with the test sample which is already examined by the manufacturers in same environmental conditions. This test comparison helps the manufacturers to clearly indicate the actual worth and life of the material and other factors that can deteriorate the quality of the material.
