The standard test method covers the conditioning and testing of textiles in those examples where such conditions are mentioned in a test procedure. As previous disclosure of textiles to high or low humidity may influence the balanced moisture pick-up, a standard test method is recommended for preconditioning the equipment when specified. The equipment to be used in testing and conditioning the textile materials includes Psychrometer ventilated by aspiration, preconditioning cabinet, conditioning chamber, multiple-shelf containing rack or any other suitable container.

The conditioning cabinet comprises of the equipment that maintains the atmosphere for testing textiles throughout the cabinet within the forbearance, including the amenities for circulating air oven over all surfaces of the exposed specimen for tracking the relative temperature and humidity of the air in the conditioning cabinet. Test samples are brought in touch with humidity for by setting the standard atmosphere to test the textile sample.
