ASTM D3786-80a-Standard Testing Instruments
ASTM D 3786 80a is an extensive testing standard that is used for determining the bursting strength of textile products such as fiber, fabrics etc. In this method, the resistance of textile products against bursting is measured by a hydraulic or pneumatic diaphragm bursting tester. This testing standard and methods is applicable to a variety of textile products such as knitted fabrics, woven fabrics etc.
The test sample is clamped between two clamps and force is exerted on the sample using a diaphragm operated hydraulically and pneumatically. The load is increased until the sample ruptures. The test is also called a Mullen’s Bursting tester.
