How Does Presto Cobb Sizing Tester Works?

How Does Presto Cobb Sizing Tester Works?

If you are working in the paper and packaging industry, then it is important to test your product to check its durability. The water absorptiveness level is one of the essential properties of your material that makes your product more durable. Thus, you need to make sure that your product will easily absorb more water at a given time, you can test it with the help of a Cobb sizing tester.

This is one of the amazing testing equipment that will let you determine the quantity of water absorbed at a given time. Materials like corrugated boxes, paper boards, and much more can easily be tested with the help of this lab testing instrument. The water absorptiveness level of the material will be counted by a 1 sq. meter sample.

Now, let us focus on how this amazing testing instrument will help you in assessing the quality of your product. So, let us get started.

What is Cobb sizing tester and for what purpose it is used?

The Cobb sizing tester is one of the effective testing instruments that will help you to utilize and compute the water absorptiveness level of the materials effectively. This testing machine from Presto has been made with a rugged structure and corrosion-resistant body. The high Cobb value of paper and its related products indicates that the products will be of high quality and can easily retain or absorb moisture.

Depending on the application of these types of materials, you can easily maintain the Cobb value of the product. This economical testing instrument will be used to deliver high-quality products tested with accuracy.

The main purpose of using this Cobb sizing tester is to determine its product quality by testing its Cobb value in a specific period of time. Water absorptiveness of the material will be related to several properties like sizing, porosity, etc. Thus, if you find a low Cobb value of your substance, then it is very important for you to improve its quality. This amazing lab testing instrument has been made by embedding several features. Below we have discussed its features and technical specifications.

Easy to follow steps to commence Cobb sizing test

  • Take a sample of paperboard or corrugated board with the weighed specimen nearest 0.1 gram.
  • Now, you can place the cork sheet on the metal plate and place the weighed specimen on it.
  • Clamp the specimen firmly to prevent any leakage between a sample and the ring.
  • To ensure that there are no leaks in the clamping between the ring, use a soft elastic and non-absorbent gasket of the same internal dimension as of ring.
  • Now, you can pour the water into the fixture as per the requirement of the sample. Reference 10mm marking and 25mm marking for 100 ml and 250 ml respectively.
  • Keep the sample inside the cylindrical ring for 120 seconds (for paper) and 300 seconds (for corrugated boards).
  • Reject the sample that shows any sign of spillage or leakage.
  • If the liquid passes through the sheet to the rubber mat, then the test will get rejected.
  • Once the buzzer of the stopwatch will buzz then you can easily take the sample out.
  • With the help of a hand roller, drain out excess water without exerting any pressure. In the case of corrugated boxes, the roller will be applied in the direction parallel to the flutes of a corrugated box.
  • Now, you can again check the weight of the sample.
