How to Conduct Tensile Tests & Calibration on the Tensile Strength Tester?

Tensile Strength Tester

All the materials have to undergo various testing measures before they are utilized in the production process as there are chances they are not durable, ductile, flexible, or tensile enough to be used in the final product.

Each & every material has a property of their own but one test is common among all the industries. The test is called tensile testing methodology. It is highly important to evaluate the flexibility of a material strength of a material against the pull force applied to it, and the ductility of a material.

Materials like plastics, rubber, fabric, metals, etc. need to undergo this testing measure and help the operator evaluate all their properties. The Presto Group offers a top-notch lab testing instrument that simplifies the measurement of a material’s tensile strength. The lab testing instrument is called the Tensile strength tester.

The equipment is designed on the terminology of a constant rate of traverse method that determines the ability of a material to withstand the pull force exerted upon the same. It is necessary to be conducted before utilizing the material in the final product to enhance its durability and provide maximum customer satisfaction.

The working mechanism of the tensile strength tester is absolutely facile. It is important to take a look at the workings of the instrument.

Working Mechanism of the Tensile Strength Tester

The lab testing equipment performs the task by following the constant rate of the traverse method. This method identifies the properties of materials accurately and allows the operator to get rid of uncertainties at the initial stage itself.

To commence with the tensile strength test, the operator must condition the specimen accordingly and choose the grippers that are suitable for the conduction of the test.

To condition the specimen, the Presto Group has offered a dumbbell cutting press that carves the sample out of the material in a dumbbell shape, allowing the operator to perform the test and achieve high accuracy levels.

The specimen is then placed between the grippers situated at the jaws of the instrument. The upper jaw and lower jaw have a minimum distance of 25mm wherein the specimen is placed. Once the specimen is placed, the operator must clamp it with the help of the tightening knobs.

Once the specimen is firmly clamped, the tensile strength tester conducts the test with a constant rate of traverse method. In this method, the upper jaw remains stationary at one position. However, the lower jaw moves downward i.e. away from the upper jaw at a certain speed, forcing pressure on the specimen.

This leads to the elongation of the specimen or the breaking of the specimen after withstanding the peak load from the constant travel of the lower jaw away from the upper jaw in a back-and-forth momentum.

The top-notch microprocessor-based display installed within the instrument determines the peak load value that the specimen was able to withstand before the braking. The display also indicates the highest elongation levels of the specimen.

To follow the accuracy-driven approach it is necessary to calibrate the tensile strength tester from time to time. Let us take a look at how the calibration process is performed.

Performing Calibration Test on Tensile Strength Tester

The calibration of a machine is an extremely important process, therefore, it must be done with maximum focus & accuracy.

To begin with the calibration test, the upper jaw needs to be removed along with the gripper. Now, the instrument must be reset by the feather touch controls associated with the control panel.

Once the resetting is done, the operator can easily attach the calibrated weight on the upper jaw and enter the calibration mode password i.e. 127. The load meter on the control panel will display the calibrated weight and the elongation meter will show ST-1 as a value.

The calibration of the elongation levels is performed in a similar manner as well. The operator enters the calibration of elongation, the elongation meter depicts 001.

Afterward, the elongation meter undergoes resetting through the increment & decrement keys of the feather-touch controls. The operator must detach the weight attached to the upper jaw. The elongation display again undergoes resetting, resulting in the display depicting dot – 2.

After that, the operator can now attach the known calibrated weight again to the empty upper jaw which allows a certain value. If the value indicated on the display is equal to the weight, it means that the instrument is fully calibrated. In the other case, one must repeat the entire process and make sure that no steps are missed. If in the case of repetitive false values, you must contact customer care or our team of experts to help you assist better.

This is how the entire instrument functions and undergoes calibration without much of a hassle. The incorporation of the feather touch buttons also enhances the experience of using the lab testing instrument and performing the test with so much ease.

The tensile testing machine manufacturers in India have designed this instrument as a feature-enriched product as it includes high-quality & top-notch features to promote one-handed testing and also help the operator achieve high levels of accuracy.
