"As a non-technical force measurement user, I have found Presto Stantest to be a superb company. They have excellent test solutions, training on how to use their equipment, and competitive service and calibration for all of our measuring equipment."
Metal shutter and garage door manufacturers need to ensure that the raw materials of aluminum and steel used in production are strong, stretchable, and durable and need accurate tensile testing. Testing also provides an evaluation of the performance of clip mountings and sliding crimped rings when subjected to repeated loading.
Presto supplies software-controlled twin-column tensile testing equipment for accurate force measurement as well as cyclic testing applications. The system uses high-capacity load cells and heavy-duty wedge grips to firmly hold metal specimens and measure/track tenter tensile strength, elongation, and cyclic force behavior in real time. Manufactured by world-leading software developers, advanced software enables programmable test routines, graphical result analysis, and automatic reporting, enabling manufacturers to enhance their quality control, product safety, and research activities.
Requirement
Soprofen Industrie is a French manufacturer of metal roller shutters and garage doors that needed a test solution to enhance quality control of their materials and products. They needed to be able to test the tensile strength and elongation of aluminum and steel sheets and measure the strength of clip mountings and slide-crimped rings. This required a versatile testing solution that could perform multiple tensile and cyclic force tests.
Solution
Presto Stantest supplied a Zeus Ultimo 3.0 twin-column force testing system, powered by Emperor™ software. Metal specimens were securely held between 25 kN wedge grips, carefully aligned to prevent bending. Each sample was pulled until failure, providing accurate measurements of elongation-at-break and tensile strength.
The twin-column frame offered the rigidity needed to test a wide range of materials reliably. In addition to tensile testing, the Zeus Ultimo 3.0 was employed to perform cyclic sliding force tests on shutter clip mountings and sliding crimped rings, ensuring functional safety and durability.
Software enabled fully automated control over all test parameters, including cyclic testing routines, with results displayed graphically for easy analysis and reporting. The French-language interface further simplified operation for Soprofen’s team.
Test Equipment
- Zeus Ultimo 3.0 twin-column test frame
- ILC-T 10 kN and ILC-S 1000 N load cells
- 25 kN Wedge Grips for tensile testing
