ASTM G-154 -Standard Testing Instruments
The test method explains the operating procedures and basic principles for using water apparatus and fluorescent UV light proposed to reproduce various weathering effects that occur when products are exposed to sunlight, moisture, rain or dew, etc. This test method is meant especially for the procedures for obtaining, measuring, and controlling various conditions of exposure.

Significance
The importance of ASTM G154 is that a manufacturer has a laboratory method to simulate degradation by weathering in a controlled environment and make an assessment of it in a reproducible manner. The standard enables early identification of material limitations, such as color change, loss of gloss, and deterioration of the surface during product development, to provide informed selection of material and possible improvement of material formulation in plastics, coatings, and polymer industries under simulation of UV radiation, moisture, and thermal cycling.
Scope
ASTM G154 relates to non-metallic materials that are under accelerated weathering using a fluorescent UV lamp device. It controls the operation of the apparatus, lamp selection, exposure cycles, and parameters for condensation. Standard assists material developers, quality laboratories, and manufacturers in obtaining standardized, internationally accepted weathering performance data on plastics, coatings, and polymer product qualification for automotive applications, consumer goods, construction, and similar uses.
