ISO 4892-3-2012 Standard Testing Instruments
ISO 4892-3 specifies the apparatus requirements, lamp types, exposure cycles, and procedural conditions for exposing plastic specimens to fluorescent UV radiation combined with controlled heat and moisture. It simulates outdoor weathering degradation under reproducible laboratory conditions. Significance
The value of ISO 4892-3 lies in the fact that three different types of lamps are specified in order to simulate the solar radiation under three different conditions: the UVA-340 lamp for simulation under global solar radiation, the UVA-351 lamp for simulation with window-glass-filtered sunlight, and the UVB-313 lamp for accelerated degradation testing (only by agreement). With this differentiation a manufacturer can choose those exposures that are most relevant to the specific end-use environment to produce more meaningful and application-specific weathering resistance data for plastics development and qualification programs.
Scope
