Improving Material Longevity against Corrosion with Cyclic Corrosion Tester

Cyclic Corrosion Tester

Corrosion & rusting are the biggest concerns in the automobile and the metal industry as they can hamper the life of materials used in this industry with an immediate effect.

Manufacturers from these industries have to take extra precautions to avoid rusting & corrosion which can take place even due to the exposure of these materials to the environment. To understand with an example, you must have seen integral parts of cars with a rust layer, this happens because of constant moisture and exposure to the environment.

Manufacturers make sure that the materials utilized within the final production carry anti-corrosion properties to ensure longevity & durability against environmental degradations. They assess these materials under corrosive nature by simulating such an environment and assess the reaction of the materials to the simulated environment.

The Presto Group offers the cyclic corrosion tester, a highly advanced lab testing instrument that simulates corrosion-friendly environments to aid manufacturers in evaluating the ability of materials to withstand rusting or such environments that cause rusting.

The salt spray corrosion tester has an extremely interesting working module that has truly transformed the standards of the lab testing instrument industry since its introduction.

Working Module of the Cyclic Corrosion Tester

The lab testing instrument has a unique working module as it is segregated into four task-performing equipment. All four parts have different jobs that combine together at one place to perform the testing.

To commence the test, the operator places the specimen within the specimen holders of the inner chamber. The inner chamber contains three different specimen holders – the panel plate for card-sized specimens, the v group for specimens like nuts & bolts or relatable samples in terms of size, and the fiber rod to hang samples.

The instrument has a transparent see-through canopy associated with the inner chamber to ensure high levels of insulation and avoid the transaction of the inner chamber’s atmosphere with the outside and vice-versa.

After the placement of the sample as per its size & shape, the operator sets the testing type as well as the time for the testing process to go on. It is important to note that the instrument can be adjusted with different settings for variable testing measures as the test cycles proceed into salt spray and wetting/condensation and humidity (SWAAT) & salt spray and air drying (PROHESION).

The environment is simulated as corrosion-friendly with the help of the demineralized water in the reservoir tank that is ported to the inner chamber by the connection of pipes connected with inlet ports of the inner chamber. The demineralized water is concentrated with salt (NaCl/ sodium chloride) with a ratio of 95% water and 5% salt.

The air saturator also performs its task by creating a corrosive air that is elevated to a temperature of 45o C (maximum). The air from the air saturator is ported to the inner chamber along with the salt solution from the reservoir tank.

During the process of PROHESION, the supply of the reservoir tank cuts off and only the dry air from the air saturator is supplied within the inner chamber, allowing the operator to test the sample under extreme & variable climate conditions.

The inner chamber has an assembly of uniformly placed silicon bag heaters inside its walls that ensure the temperature elevation and regularity within the chamber during the course of testing.

Once the testing is completed as per the adjusted setting, the air purge feature of the corrosion tester settles down the concentrated fog and avoids the leakage of leftover fog to the outside environment hampering other automotive material or metal products.

This is how the working module of the corrosion tester functions in cyclic measures and allows the operator to perform single-handed testing.

Key Features of the Cyclic Corrosion Tester

The cyclic corrosion test chamber is a feature-enriched lab testing equipment that allows manufacturers from the automotive or metal industry to achieve higher levels of accuracy and perform testing without facing any issues.

The cyclic corrosion test chamber is equipped with the finest insulation that any lab testing instrument has ever had. The inner chamber has 3 layers of insulation out of which the first layer is made of FRP (fiber reinforced plastic)  material for anti-corrosive properties followed by a coated MS sheet for the durability of the instrument and finally a layer of glass wool that ensures the heat insulation due to the presence of silicon bag heaters.

The silicon bag heaters inside the walls of the inner chamber are no less than a feature as they ensure the accuracy of the test results by providing uniform heating to the specimen.

The instrument has a see-through transparent canopy that allows the operator and the manufacturers to keep a check on the specimen during the course of action.

The cyclic corrosion tester is imbibed with an LCD display that allows the operator to perform cyclic tests as per standard guidelines as well as set the timer of the test proceeding with absolute facility. The control panel supports the entire functioning of the instrument single-handedly.

The instrument has security alarm systems to avoid any fatal situations or hazards for a lot of reasons. The high levels of automation make the complicated process absolutely easy to function.

The salt spray corrosion tester is incorporated with a fog dispenser in the inner chamber that spreads the concentrated fog uniformly all around the specimen for accurate testing results.

All these features and many more of these combine together to perform the cyclic corrosion test with maximum precision.
