Puncture Resistance Testing for Nursery Toys

Nursery Toy Safety Evaluation for Puncture Resistance
Solution
- Motorised force testing system with digital gauge
- Needle probe designed to meet safety test standards.
- Vice grip with rubber-faced jaws for delicate specimens
Benefits
- Cost-effective and repeatable testing solution
- Simple operation suitable for quality-control personnel
- Determining puncture force and puncture resistance
Toys or baby care products for use in a nursery need to be puncture resistant and able to withstand mechanical stresses to safeguard the child during normal use. Presto Stantest presents a motorized force testing system for accurate testing of feeding accessories like pacifiers, teether toys, feeding pouch products, etc. for puncture resistance tests that are extremely fragile. A high-accuracy needle probe device and a force gauge with digital readout, along with rubber-faced vise grips, are used to hold specimens of soft plastic and silicone without harm during testing. The puncture strength is measured by using a controlled compression force to look for leaks and material failures. A repeatable testing method can assist manufacturers in complying with the toy safety requirements of BS EN 71-1 and can also help in ensuring uniform quality control, product durability, and consumer safety in local and international markets for toy products.
Requirement
Client, founded in 2011 in Singapore, is dedicated to bringing safety, quality, and good design to parents around the world. They manufacture feeding bottles, food storage containers, utensils, pacifiers, and teether toys.
Alongside functionality testing, such as activation or opening force, there is a critical need for safety. Products must meet stringent industry standards for mechanical strength, puncture, and burst resistance. Wonderstar sought an in-house capability to perform repeatable puncture resistance tests, ensuring that items retain their integrity under stress and maintain brand reputation in domestic and export markets.
Solution
Presto Stantest Asia provided a Compression testing machine with motorized force test stand paired with an compression tester, tensile test , offering compatibility with a variety of probe types. For touchscreen operation, the Testing Machine provides an intuitive interface suitable for small-scale compression and puncture tests.
A medium-capacity vice fixture mounted on the anvil plate secures specimens of varying sizes and shapes, typical of nursery products. Rubber-faced jaws hold low-friction plastic or silicone components firmly without causing damage.
In puncture resistance testing, a 1 mm-diameter needle-profile probe compresses the sample to detect any leakage or failure, replicating the forces that may be applied during use by children. This process confirms that brightly colored, novelty products remain durable and safe, even under bite or stress.
The Compression Tester range combines precision displacement control with repeatable force measurement, making it ideal for safety testing of small, delicate plastic parts.
