BS 6319-3
BS 6319-3
BS 6319-3 is a British Standard, which is a test method for flexural modulus of elasticity and flexural strength of resin and polymer/cement compounds used in buildings. It is part of the full range of BS 6319 and is used throughout the construction, civil engineering, concrete repair, and structural material manufacturing sectors. Can be used on thermoset cold-curing resin formulations, such as epoxide, polyester, acrylic, and polyurethane liquid resin and hardener systems, aggregates, and fillers. Presto's precision flexural testing instruments support manufacturers in conducting BS 6319-3 compliant evaluations under controlled laboratory conditions.
Significance
Methods for determining the modulus of elasticity in flexure and flexural strength of rectangular prism specimens of polymer-based mortars and polymer/cement-based mortars are provided in BS 6319-3. These measurements are essential to ensure that construction resin compositions have sufficient stiffness and bending resistance prior to using them for repairing, grouting, or bonding structures. The standard sets measurable performance specifications for flexure behavior to allow comparisons of batches of material, verification of formulation variations, and uniformity of flexural behavior of production. Scope The procedures for the test of rectangular prisms prescribed in BS 6319-3 refer to the determination of the flexural strength and the modulus of elasticity in flexure of such prisms under four-point loading. The standard is not applicable to unfilled systems and must be read in conjunction with BS 6319-1. Suitable for resin composition manufacturers, construction material suppliers, structural repair contractors, and quality inspection laboratories looking for standardized flexural strength/stiffness testing procedures to qualify material types for structural use, to verify design, and/or to meet regulatory requirements within construction and civil engineering.
