BS EN 1263-1
This BS EN 1263-1:1999 is replaced by BS EN 1263-1, which covers safety requirements and test methods for safety nets and accessories for use in construction and assembly work to prevent falls from a height or deep falls. The standard is based on the performance characteristics of polypropene and polyamide fibers. Presto provides precision mechanical testing instruments that help to meet the requirements of BS EN 1263-1, helping manufacturers and testing institutions to verify the product performance with accuracy and confidence on required test parameters.
Significance
One of the main causes of injury and death in the construction industry is from falls. When primary edge protection is not possible, safety nets offer a much-needed passive fall arrest system. It is therefore essential that nets meet the required level of performance, and this is a basic site safety requirement. Eighty percent (-10°C to +40°C) of the mechanical properties should be retained, depending on the ambient temperatures in actual construction situations. When installed in the system, nets tested to BS EN 1263-1 provide both peace of mind and confidence that nets will perform as the endorser desires under challenging, demanding conditions. BS EN 1263-1 is not applicable to safety net installations; instead, if an assembly or construction task requires a safety net, the safety net accessories fall under the standard, which is used when a person is at risk of falling further in his or her task. The standard addresses classification, designation, requirements, test methods, marking and labeling, handling instructions, as well as conformity assessment. Presto's tensile and mechanical testing instruments support the full range of performance evaluations required to demonstrate compliance with this essential construction safety standard.Scope
