BS EN ISO 3376
Determination of Tensile Strength and Percentage Elongation
Significance and Use
BS EN ISO 3376:2020 is a standard adopted for testing the properties of leather materials such as tensile strength and elongation under controlled conditions. The standard provides a guideline for manufacturers to measure the mechanical durability and stretching characteristics of leather for footwear, automotive interiors, garments, belts, bags, and industrial products. To investigate the modes of response of leather material to a pulling force prior to failure, the testing of tensile strength and elongation is an important property to check out. The standard also supports quality verification, material comparison, research activities, and product development for different leather applications. Presto offers advanced tensile testing systems suitable for leather testing with accurate force measurement, controlled extension rates, and software-based result analysis.
Scope
This standard specifies a method for determining tensile strength, elongation at specified load conditions, and elongation at maximum force for different types of leather materials. Testing is performed using dumbbell-shaped specimens secured between suitable grips at a fixed jaw separation distance. A constant-rate tensile force is applied until specimen failure while force and elongation values are continuously recorded for accurate calculation of tensile and stretching properties.
Notes
BS EN ISO 3376 is widely used for evaluating the tensile strength and elongation behavior of leather materials used in industrial and commercial applications. Presto provides advanced tensile testing systems suitable for leather testing with stable gripping systems, precise force application, and software-based reporting solutions for laboratory and production quality control environments.
