EN 12089
In Europe, decryption of the bending behavior of thermal insulating products is covered by the standard BS EN 12089:2013, which sets out the equipment and procedures for entire products (Method A) and test specimens (Method B). It replaces BS EN 12089:1997 and introduces changes to the methodology to improve the accuracy. Presto's flexible testing instruments perfectly satisfy requirements of BS EN 12089, allowing manufacturers and thermal insulation testing laboratories to perform accurate and repeatable bending tests on a variety of thermal insulation products.
Significance
An important mechanical characteristic involved in the performance of thermal insulation products is bending behavior, which indicates the ability of the product to resist flexural loadings during storage, transport, and installation in the field. The test is intended to find the strength of the product at the intended bend and the extent of the deflections of the product under load, and the same method can be used to find the resistance of the product to bending stresses during transport and use. Knowledge of these properties can enable the manufacturers to test the product's strength, decrease the possibility of product damage in handling, and make sure insulation continues to perform well throughout the building's life. The standard includes the complete test procedure, test specimen preparation, the 3-point loading technique, expression and calculation of the results, accuracy of measurement, and test reporting. Testing parameters addressed include bend testing, loading, deflection, mechanical testing conditions, test equipment, reproducibility, and accuracy. Covering both full product and specimen-scale evaluations through its two distinct methods, BS EN 12089 accommodates diverse insulation product formats. Presto's testing solutions support complete compliance with this standard, delivering consistent and reliable bending performance data for product qualification and quality control.Scope
