ISBT PTC-00002

ISBT PTC-00002

ISBT PTC-00002 is a set of voluntary test methods published by the International Society of Beverage Technologists (ISBT) for evaluating PET beverage bottles. Last updated in September 2020, this standard outlines dimensional and physical characterization and performance test methods for PET bottles used in Carbonated Soft Drink (CSD), hot-fill, and cold-fill applications. For manufacturers and quality teams working with Presto's testing instruments, this standard offers a structured foundation for ensuring bottle integrity and performance.

Significance

The methods defined under ISBT PTC-00002 are intended to provide a common framework so that testing conducted by converters, brand owners, material producers, and other involved parties yields comparable results. The use of standardised methods also helps reduce the number of different test procedures any one laboratory needs to maintain. This makes it especially valuable for beverage manufacturers seeking consistency across production facilities. The standard includes, in particular, physical performance tests (top-load tests) in sections 12-14.

Scope

The top-load test method under ISBT PTC-00002 applies to all PET bottle types including CSD, cold-fill pressurized, cold-fill non-pressurized, and hot-fill variants. It evaluates whether bottles can withstand compressive forces during filling, capping, transportation, and stacking. Presto Stantest's compression and top-load testing instruments enable manufacturers to conduct these assessments with precision and repeatability, helping them meet ISBT PTC-00002 requirements and deliver structurally sound packaging to the market.
