ISO 11507 Standard Testing Instruments

ISO 11507 defines the apparatus requirements and exposure conditions for artificial weathering of paints and varnish-coated products using fluorescent UV lamps combined with condensation and water spray cycles. The standard simulates the aging effects of radiation, temperature, and humidity on coating surfaces. The UV weathering chambers built by Presto Group comply with the exposure requirements in ISO 11507 and offer options for UVA and UVB light sources, as well as programmable condensation cycles.

Significance
ISO 11507 is important because of the fact that it offers an accelerated and standardized method for testing paints and coatings for durability and resistance to degradation when exposed to simulated weather. The correlation, however, is not necessarily direct between the results of the product test and actual outdoor exposure; the correlation between the accelerated aging and the outdoor aging must be worked out in the individual coating system, and it is therefore important for the test conditions to be the same and reproducible.

Scope

ISO 11507 applies to paints, varnishes, and paint-coated products subjected to artificial weathering using fluorescent UV lamp exposure combined with condensation and water spray cycles. It governs apparatus specifications, lamp type selection, exposure cycle parameters, and environmental conditions. The standard enables coating producers and quality laboratories to evaluate the ability of their coatings to resist changes in surface properties, which is a measure of durability, as well as to evaluate the performance of the formulation in various industrial/decorative coating applications.

The standard test method for Paints and Varnishes – Test Method of exposure to laboratory light sources — Part 1: General guidance

ISO 16474-1:2013 describes the common performance necessities for devices which are used to expose paints and varnishes to various artificial light sources. Detailed information about such presentation is required only by the manufacturer of accelerated artificial irradiation or accelerated artificial weathering devices.
