ISO 29862
ISO 29862 is an international standard developed by ISO/TC 61 that specifies a series of methods for the determination of peel adhesion properties of self-adhesive tapes. It is widely adopted across packaging, labeling, medical, industrial tape, and adhesive manufacturing sectors where consistent and reproducible peel adhesion measurement is essential for product quality verification. Significance
These test methods are tools for quality control use. Given a specific self-adhesive tape and a requirement in terms of the minimum or maximum value expected for that tape, the data from the test can be used in conjunction with acceptance criteria. The standard allows producers to measure and characterize the uniformity of the adhesion of any type of self-adhesive tape, both within and between rolls and between production lots, making sure products are uniformly good in the eyes of the customer, thus minimizing adhesive failure in end-use applications for a wide variety of industrial and consumer uses. Scope There are four Method types in ISO 29862: Method 1 – Peeling of adhesive tapes from stainless steel, measured at 180°; Method 2 – Peeling of adhesive tapes from the same backing, measured at 180°; Method 3 – Peeling of double-sided and transfer tapes, measured at 180°; Method 4 – Peeling of the liner from adhesive tape, measured at 180°; Additionally, there are two normative annexes defining additional variations for each of these methods: those for low-temperature testing and 90° peel testing. It is applicable both to the self-adhesive tape manufacturers and to the packaging producer, as well as to any quality inspection and procurement agents who wish to have standardized testing of self-adhesive tape peel adhesion in production and compliance.
