ISO 3377-2
Standard Test Method Used to Measure the Double-Edge Tear Resistance and Tearing Durability of Leather Materials
Significance and Use
ISO 3377-2 is used for determining the double-edge tear resistance of leather materials under controlled tensile loading conditions. The standard helps manufacturers evaluate the resistance of leather against tearing from perforations, slots, stitched areas, and cut openings used in footwear, leather accessories, upholstery, saddlery, garments, and industrial leather products. Double-edge tear testing plays an important role in studying how leather materials behave when force is applied from both sides of a slit or opening. The standard supports quality verification, material comparison, supplier evaluation, and product development activities for different leather applications. Presto offers advanced tensile testing systems suitable for leather tear testing with accurate force measurement, controlled extension rates, and software-based result analysis.
Scope
This standard specifies a method for determining tear load in different leather materials using double-edge tear specimens with a centrally prepared slit. During testing, the specimen is mounted on specially designed holders attached to the testing machine jaws. A controlled tensile force is applied at a specified speed until tearing occurs from both edges of the slit simultaneously. The maximum tearing force is recorded for evaluating tear resistance performance under standardized laboratory conditions.
Notes
ISO 3377-2 is widely used for evaluating the tear resistance and durability of leather materials used in industrial and commercial applications. Presto provides advanced tensile testing systems suitable for double-edge tear testing with stable gripping systems, controlled loading conditions, and software-based reporting solutions for laboratory and production quality control environments.
