PSTC 101

PSTC 101

PSTC 101 is an international harmonised standard established by the Pressure Sensitive Tape Council (PSTC), which is used to rate the peel adhesion of pressure-sensitive tapes defined as the force (in pounds) required to remove the tape from a test panel or to remove tape from itself at a specified peel angle under a specific peel rate and in a specified condition. It was utilized in diverse fields like packaging, labeling, and medical and industrial tape manufacturing. Presto's precision peel adhesion testing instruments help manufacturers conduct accurate PSTC 101-compliant evaluations under controlled laboratory conditions.

Significance

PSTC 101 is a harmonised international peel testing standard created under the understanding that societies and other technical bodies from a variety of countries have agreed to consolidate their similar standards under the auspices of ISO. The several peel adhesion test methods of PSTC 101 allow manufacturers to repeat the peel adhesion testing in a systematic way across various tape configurations, various surfaces, and various peel angles to achieve consistent product quality and to provide reliable comparison of adhesive performance of production batches.

Scope

PSTC 101 addresses various types of peel tests appropriate for pressure-sensitive tape, including Method A for 180° peel from steel for single-coated tape, Method B for peel adhesion to backing, Method C for double-coated tape adhesion to steel, Method D for release liner adhesion, Method E for adhesive transfer tape, and Method F for 90° peel from steel for single-coated tape. It applies to tape manufacturers, packaging producers, label converters, and quality inspection bodies requiring standardized peel adhesion testing for production control, material qualification, and compliance verification.
