ISO 252

ISO 252

Standard test method used for measuring adhesion strength

Significance and Use

Adhesion between various layers of conveyor belts, such as cover-to-carcass or ply-to-ply adhesion, is commonly measured by ISO 252. The standard helps conveyor belt manufacturers study bonding quality, layer stability, and delamination resistance under controlled peel testing conditions. It is commonly followed in mining, cement, steel, quarrying, ports, logistics, and bulk material handling industries where conveyor belts operate under continuous stress, impact, and flexing conditions. Adhesion testing plays an important role in product quality checking, material comparison, production consistency studies, and belt durability analysis. Poor interlayer bonding can lead to ply separation, cover lifting, and premature belt failure during service. Presto Stantest offers advanced Universal Testing Machines suitable for ISO 252 testing with controlled peel speed, stable gripping arrangements, accurate force measurement, and software-based result analysis for laboratory and industrial quality testing applications.

ISO 252

Scope

This standard specifies two peel test methods for determining adhesion strength between conveyor belt layers. Method A measures sequential separation between cover layers and individual plies, while Method B evaluates separation of combined layers where independent ply removal is difficult. The standard applies to textile-reinforced and fabric-reinforced conveyor belts having tensile strength above specified limits. During testing, prepared belt strips are peeled at controlled speed under defined conditions, and the recorded peel force values are used for calculating mean and minimum adhesion strength. The method helps study bonding performance, delamination behavior, and structural stability of conveyor belt constructions.

Notes

ISO 252 is commonly followed for evaluating interlayer adhesion strength and bonding durability of conveyor belts used in heavy industrial material handling applications. Presto Stantest provides advanced peel and tensile testing systems suitable for conveyor belt adhesion testing with stable fixtures, accurate force control, controlled test speed, and software-based reporting solutions for research and quality control laboratories.
